Nice piece Patrick.

I think that interfaces are getting worse, not better. So, in a way, we're watching agents work around or replace subpar user experiences.

Not many platforms make me think "that was a delight to use." Many make me think "what the hell is going on here."

So, one thing I like about this agent/operator framework is the idea that it will remove me from the most painful interactions and let me focus on the simpler higher-level things. Time will tell, of course.

As AI makes software development faster and easier, we now have two consumers of software: humans and AI agents. That changes how we design systems.

Interfaces that were built purely for human usability now also need to be machine-friendly — through APIs, structured data, and predictable workflows.

We’re already seeing the same shift in content. When writing today, you're not only writing for humans but also for AI discovery and indexing (GEO/AI search). The challenge going forward will be finding the right balance, keeping systems AI-friendly without losing the human experience.
